The running horse with its right hind hoof on a swallow is a familiar cultural relic from the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 to 220 AD). I have seen many of these over the last 30 years but I especially like this one with its elegant and delicate floral pattern over the entire body of the horse.
In addition, this is a very large and heavy piece which tends for me to believe that it is a bronze piece, not the typical copper Ma ta fei yan that you usually find.
There are some oxidation marks but it does not detract from the background designs. Circa mid- 1900’s. In good condition. Stands not included. 13″ tall x 16.5″ long.
