This mask WAS USED in a dramatic form of Indonesian dance called Topeng. Such masks are used to interpret traditional stories concerning fabled kings, heroes and myths.
Handmade and hand painted in the mid-1900s. Acquired in Cirebon collector in West Java (about 200 miles east of Jakarta).
In very good condition for its age and use. A scrape on the top of the head. Amazing expression. Stand not included. 1 3″ tall x 8″ wide x 2.75″ deep
