The naga morsarang aka Sahan is a familiar design of the Toba Batak ethnic groups in the highlands of North Sumatra. Specifically this item is from a village in the foothills near Ambarita on Samosir Island.
Used to store medicinal and herbs.
Cast in bronze with an ancient method of wax and sand. Unlike those made in the last 30 years, this one has age and was use in a village environment until it was acquired in the 1950s by a french anthropologist.
