Hanuman is a very popular Hindu deity. Believed to be an avatar of Lord Shiva, Hanuman is worshiped as a symbol of physical strength, perseverance and devotion. Depicted here in a fighting battle against a serpent/dragon.

Lots of  detail.  Crafted in a village near Pura Luhur, Uluwatu temple.  Circa mid-1900s.  Acquired from an antique dealer in S. California in 2000.    A lighter color of wood and less dense than the very dense Ireng wood.  In good condition with a minor crack in the serpent tail (on bottom).  Stand not included.  11.5″ tall x 5″ deep x 4″ wide
